In automotive engineering, a great number of materials are used in manufacturing, operation and processing whose selection and proper use influences the quality, safety and environmental compatibility of the vehicles and other components throughout the entire product life cycle.

There are materials and classes of materials listed in the German Automotive Industry Association (VDA) list of materials and constituents in components and manufacturing materials that are subject to declaration, which, according to current information, pose risks to humans and the environment during their use phase as well as subsequent recycling and disposal and are to be avoided if at all possible

The list was compiled based on

  • Legal provisions
  • Environmental protection and occupational safety regulations for avoiding possible risks to persons and the environment that can result from materials used in manufacturing, operation and processing
  • The ethic of responsibility for the VDA with respect to people and the environment, expressed in its motto "We act with environmental awareness".

This list focuses above all on substances that may pose particular risks. These include:

  • Carcinogens
  • Teratogens (substances that cause birth defects)
  • Mutagens (substances that cause genetic mutation)
  • Sensitizers
  • Toxic and very toxic substances
  • Environmentally hazardous materials

Application of the VDA list to NORRES hoses: There are no VDA-listed substances in the synthetic materials used by NORRES in the manufacture of hoses in product groups 330, 331, 332, 351, 352, 355, 356 and 357 (in both standard ...-0000 as well as ...-1001, -1103 and -5100 versions). The same applies to the entire selection of CONNECT connection parts.

In particular, the heavy metals listed in EU End of Life Vehicles Directive 2000/53/EG (ELV) lead, cadmium, chromium (VI), and mercury are used neither in the plastic materials nor in the steel wires of the aforementioned product groups.
